All-clear in the construction area

Good news for the residents of the hammerstiel construction area in kitzingen. The existing suspicion of explosive ordnance on the land between the railroad station and the former larson barracks has not been confirmed. The specialist firm commissioned by the city has not found any dangerous remnants from the second world war.

This is what kitzingen’s mayor siegfried muller has now told the residents of max-fromm-strabe and olga-pohlmann-strabe in the building area, which is now almost full.

"There is no concrete danger in the building area any more", writes the OB after completion of the investigations lasting several weeks. "In order to ensure maximum safety," muller calls on the residents to "carry out explosive ordnance management during construction in the future in the event of massive interventions in the soil."

Morser grenade discovered

The bomb search was prompted by the discovery of a morse grenade in the vicinity of the railroad overpass on kaltensondheimer strabe at the beginning of may. The discovery of the comparatively harmless explosive device during ongoing construction work on the railroad station site had made the city wide-awake and active. A search in the hammerstiel was announced for august, but was delayed because of the necessary tendering process.

The search for explosive ordnance then started at the beginning of november. Around 20 suspicious points on about half of the 2.7-hectare building area were examined by a specialist company. About 300 boreholes were drilled in a fixed grid to scan the subsoil for remnants of the explosive remnants of war. The specialists did not find anything.
